Welcome, and a warm first hello to the newcomers!
I’m so happy you’re here.
The story of this poem: I serve in a leadership role at work, and somewhere along the way I realized that when I choose a good day, I have one, and usually, so do the people around me.
The trick is remembering to make that choice.
THE TRICK The trick is to shut it all out: The guilt over walls built for safety, The vulture, in its sweeping circles, The murderous villain banging on your door, The slender coyote eying your snackable toes, The earthquake shaking your house’s foundation, The hunger in your belly like a seam sewn too tight, The ache in your shoulder that came to visit and never left, The green-eyed ones who pull you down as they wish you well. The secret to shutting it out always did lie in release. The trick is to love all the noise, Then tell it to go to hell.
I love it.
i keep trying ta learn some memory tricks
and some thought tricks
and some feelin tricks
and some wird tricks
.
but sometimes i (gotta) wonder
if anyone (other than me)
is gettin tricked
by my tricks 😝💙
