The story of these poems: I got a reminder, recently, that my needs are valid even (some might say especially) when they’re different from someone else’s.
FISH AND WHALE A flutter of fins. A chiding fish: “Just shut up and breathe! There’s water in every direction, What more could you possibly need?” “I’m not like you and your tribe. See how I’m blue, how I twist? I’m a whale who must take the air. I can visit under the surface, But I can’t live at the bottom and survive.”
BURN Grins are well-intentioned, But teeth burn retinas. Plagues to the crush who turns aside, Who seeks illumination like candelabras, Not like black holes rending, Not like searchlights.
Thank you so much for reading my work.
See you next week.
