Welcome, and a warm first hello to the newcomers!
The Hierophant ties this week’s batch of poems together. This card in the tarot reminds us to let life be our teacher, no matter how odd or offensive the lesson seems at first.
Got any life lessons of your own to share? Let’s chat in the comments about the things we learned the hard way!
Prison Break: see ya later, abusers.
Oubliettes are deep,
They think that you’re theirs to keep.
Even monsters sleep.
Closing Time: eventually, I had to choose to be sober for myself.
I cut off my pain.
Slapped the bill on the bartop,
Held out my rough palm.
Lines: being raised with a strong focus on appearance was exhausting.
Get out the mirror,
Time to get this girl in line.
Rebellious drug.
Lapped: it’s hard to find good collaborators.
If you capture me,
Understand this: I let you,
Slowed down on purpose.
Supercell: when someone tells you who they are, listen.
Bruised supercell sky
Hangs low over prairie homes.
Better get inside.
Starlight: attention doesn’t have to be scary.
Worship from afar.
It feels so warm in your gaze,
Here, being your star.
Maiden: powerful women can be pretty too.
Mythical maiden,
Monstrous tresses snake-laden,
Heaven in her den.
Hotel for the Stars: you do what you have to do to escape.
Orion’s Belt flung
In the corner of the room.
Star-clothes are all strewn.
Sisters run distance,
Hunter’s on his old bullshit,
Atlas looks askance.

Used to live a life
Where I received diamonds
In exchange for being treated like shit and lied to.
Managed others folks’ feelings,
Gave them everything they needed,
Hid myself away whenever I needed some healing.
Started stealing
Moments, money, any resource that I could.
Started dealing
With the people who could get me out the hood.
Car peeling
Out the driveway, never gonna come back,
Dive deep into debt just to stay on my new track.
I’ll take that interest
Over diamond rings,
Around fingers not allowed to do a single goddamn thing,
Over someone telling me that I’ll never amount to anything.
Svengalis to the left,
Cut them off, I’m at my best,
I’m the sphinx, bitch, pass my test,
Stay blessed.
Friendship Blessing
When you are chilly,
My blanket covers you.
When you are thirsty,
My glass is half-full.
When you hear voices,
My song is louder.
Where my own joy lives,
You hold a brass key.
When you’re called to dance,
I am your beat.
Bonus treat for readers-to-the-enders: a sneak peek at my latest single, Myth. (Best with headphones. Think the hero’s journey; there’s a twist, an awakening, and even if you do return home, you’re never the same.)
Thanks for joining! See you next week!
All my best,
The prolific Lizzy! I'm always left inspired by both your words and output!
Fabulous work!
